mankind always developed technology; it feels faster now, but the invention of the wheel or the discovery of fire were such incredible steps that are worth all of last century’s discoveries

Mankind has always been inventing and discovering things, we’re curious creatures and we like to understand how things work, and we’re also inventive once we understand how things work we start using them as tools.
The speed of our improvements in technology speeds up with time, because lots of our advancements make our lives easier and mean that we have to spend less time on the basic necessities of life like finding and growing food, and so more people have time to make more inventions, which mean that even more people have even more time to come up with new inventions……

It didn’t. One of the first things mankind did when man became man (rather than animal) was start developing and inventing things. From the first sharpened stick to the latest iPad was a constant on going process. In the past few decades though there has been a sudden leap forward. The more tech you have, the easier it is to develop. In recent years governements have realised how important it is and put more money towards it, so it all snowballs.
