      Its quite complex and does many different things. In short: takes a bunch of electrons, accelerates them to close to the speed of light, passes them through many small magnets which generated coherent X-rays, shoots these X-rays onto specially made targets, looks at how the light interacts with the atoms in the target, analyses the light that comes out taking pictures of what matter inside the sun looks like.
