Laser light is just light, however the particles of light in a laser have a special property: they are coherent. This means that all the little wavelets in the light wave add up in the most efficient way possible, making up a very bright pulse. It is both a combination of the coherence properties and large intensities that lasers posses that make it a very special light source indeed.
