Quite a lot of things for starters – laser labs are notoriously cramped! Besides the actual laser there are many lenses, mirrors and optical elements, an experimental chamber of some kind where the experiments take place, lots of long-range microscopes, cameras and other diagnostics. You also have to wear laser-safety goggles – which changes the colour of everything in the room because they filter out the colour of the laser light to make sure you don’t damage your eyes by the powerful light!
