• Question: What's the best telescope for me to buy, so I can start to learn about the planets?

      I’m not really hot on personal telescopes. You’re best off contacting a local amateur astronomy group if there is one, or pick up an astronomy magazine. It depends on how serious you are too, they’re not cheap. If you’re just doing in casually then you’re better off with a pair of astronomy binoculars.

      If you’re being serious then you want something with an equatorial mount, that means you can move the telescope as the sky moves rather than just moving it up and down, left and right.

      The bigger your mirror, the further you can see, so that’s something else you need to think about.
