At CERN there are between 5000 and 10000 people. Lots of people come to visit all the time, so the number is different every day. The ATLAS experiment, which I work on, has about 3000 scientists working on it, but they’re spread out all over the world. Thanks to the internet, you don’t need to physically be at CERN to work on the experiments, since data can be sent all around the world. (It helps to be at CERN though if you want to discuss stuff with other people, since you can all meet up and chat together, rather than sending loads of emails).
