My last few holidays have been after I’ve gone somewhere for my job, like Arizona. I went to use a 4m telescope and went to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon afterwards. I do kind of switch off thinking about my ‘work’ but the scientist won’t go away. That’s just who I am. I’ll always look at things wondering how they work, or got to look like that or some other question. I’m very inquisitive, and by inquisitive I mean nosey. So I guess I do hope to make a discovery, but just a personal one to me and not necessarily something that no one else has seen.

Its practically impossible to stop thinking about things you’re interested in. If a problem draws your attention you’ll try to solve it regardless whether you’re in the office, the lab or on the beach.

It’s good to take a break from work for a while when you’re on holiday. It gives your brain chance to have a rest! I normally come back from my holidays with lots of energy and very excited to get stuck back into things again!
