• Question: in 50 years what will the average life span be for the middle classes?

      I think the important thing is less about how long we will live and more about how long we can live a good life. There’s no point in living to be 200 if for half of that you can’t get out of your chair. We need to concentrate on keeping the mind healthy, then we can get on with the body.

      I don’t know the answer to that, I don’t study human behaviour. There are a lot of things that will affect how long we can live – changes to the climate, advances in medicine, the avalibility of food, whether there is another war…
      Balancing all those effects to make a predicition is very hard, and somethings that will change our lives probably haven’t even been discovered yet, when I was born the web hadn’t even been invented yet!

      if reasonable cures for cancer will be found, it could push up life expectancy by at least 10-15 years; not sure the human body and mind can stand much more, it does not make sense to live long if your brain is not working well…
