One of the most brilliant pieces of scientific work man has ever achieved. Until Darwin we knew nothing about why there is such a variety of life on Earth, where as with the theory of evolution by natural selection a testable mechanism for this was introduced for the first time. An this almost 100 years before we even know DNA existed!

We of course now know evolution works (its how people breed horses and dogs – like the Dobermann or the German Shepherd) and considering our knowledge of DNA it can be observed and studies daily when looking at how viruses and bacteria mutate to make our cures less efficient in time, but that it would work on such a grand scale is truly astonishing!

The key here is that it would take a very simple piece of evidence to falsify the theory of evolution, for example a 200 million year old dog fossile, but no such evidence has been found yet.
