• Question: What triggered the big bang?

      No one really knows. We have no way of knowing what the universe was like before the Big bang. There is something called the big bounce theory – that the universe will one day start to shrink again until it becomes really small once more and there will be another big bang. Evidence points towards the universe reaching a certain size and stopping, rather than shrinking though.

      No one really knows, because our theories stop working at the very high temperatures that were around at the Big Bang. We’re going to need a better understanding of physics at high energies and temperatures before we can answer that question.
